“Smell the Sea, and Feel the Sky”

One of my favourite Van Morrison songs goes as follows: “Hark now hear the sailors cry, smell the sea and feel the sky. Let your soul and spirit fly…into the Mystic.” Today I am about to take my first official ferry ride for my new job. Yes, I have taken several BC ferries over to Vancouver Island over the years, but now that I live here, the experience seems so close, so repeatable, and yet will hopefully never lose its magic. I have been longing for the briny, pungent smell of the sea, and the unmistakeable fresh ocean breeze that stirs and awakens the soul. I am so lucky to get the chance to say “I’m taking the ferry to work today.” I promise to bring my camera along and get some snaps as the day (and week) promises to bring sunshine and warm weather.
