LL Cabin 6 for BlogYesterday I had the good fortune to drive up into the mountains yet again; this time my destination was snowy, magical Lake Louise, Alberta. I have been to this stunning place several times but never in the midst of winter, and never with such a light heart filled with gratitude. Many of you know that yesterday was my birthday and one would think that my best present ever would be the chance to wander the grounds of one of Canada’s most mystical, magical natural landscapes, breathing in the clear frosty air and revelling in the pristine wintry view. Well, yes, that was pretty awesome, of course. So too was the news I was given just before this adventure.

Last fall I wrote a post on the annual Toronto Beaches Terry Fox Run. In this post I let my dear readers here know that my participation this year was extremely personal. My dear sister Jen was in the midst of a battle with breast cancer. I am here to report today that Jen was declared cancer free this week after months of radiation! So my trip to the mountains yesterday was a celebration and also a reminder about how lucky we are each day. A reminder not to take life for granted. To celebrate the big, mysterious things like mountains and emerald lakes, but more importantly, the small things. Like ice skating, fresh air that takes your breath away, and home-made macaroni served in a skillet by a roaring fire :). I would also like to thank all of you who followed along on my adventure yesterday as I took pictures with my iPhone, and for all of the touching and appreciated birthday wishes. It felt like you were there with me and that I was not celebrating this wonderful day alone. Thank you!

I know I will remember my adventure at Lake Louise for days and years to come. I did bring along my “serious” camera and captured the view for you in my Alberta gallery here. Please visit!
